Overview
Much like arthroscopy of the hip, knee arthroscopy is a surgical procedure used to diagnose and treat problems in the knee joint by inserting a very small camera, known as an athroscope, into the knee joint. This procedure eliminates the need for invasive open surgery, and instead uses a video monitor to guide small surgical instruments throughout the knee. By avoiding a large incision during surgery, patients will experience less pain, less joint stiffness, and often shorter recovery periods before retuning to work or play. We may recommend arthroscopy if a patient has a complicated condition that doesn’t respond to treatment of a nonsurgical nature.
