Physical Therapy

What Is Physical Therapy?

Physical Therapy (also known as PT) is used to treat and prevent acute sports-related injuries, workplace injuries, degenerative conditions, and to help patients regain strength and restore functional movement as they recover from surgery. In all cases, physical therapists integrate hands-on care, exercise prescription, and health education to carry out successful treatment plans.

Patients who participate in post-operative physical therapy tend to recover faster than those who do not. They also tend to reduce the risk for future reinjury. During post-operative PT, your therapist will work with you to minimize scar tissue build-up, retrain muscles, restore range of motion, stability, and strength to the affected area, and will even provide you with at-home exercise instruction to maximize your near- and long-term results.
