Job Functions:

We are seeking Medical Assistant with Orthopedic experience for our expanding practice!

In this position you will be performing both clinical and clerical tasks, under the direct supervision of the Orthopedic Clinical Manager, Physicians and Physician Assistants.

Clinical duties include: Orthopedic wound care, casting, splinting, taking and recording medical histories in the EHR system, preparing patients for examination, cast and/or suture and staple removal, drawing up medications for administration by the physicians or PA’s.

Clerical responsibilities include: scheduling appointments, telephone triage, e-prescribing prescriptions, faxing prior authorizations, referrals, scanning, and maintaining EHR.

Skills and abilities: Experience in orthopedic care, Casting & Splinting Skills along with Wound Care Professional attitude, appearance, customer service skills, attention to detail and knowledge of Medical Terminology.

Must have the ability to multi-task along with excellent written and verbal communication skills both written and verbal.

Atlantic Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine has an immediate opening for a full time Insurance Eligibility Specialist in our Portsmouth, NH office. This position is on-site. Responsibilities include ensuring that all upcoming patient appointments have been verified for current insurance coverage and necessary referrals/authorizations using internal software, provider portals and other methods to facilitate reimbursement. Other responsibilities include:

  • Communication with patients, insurance companies, payers and healthcare providers
  • Data entry of all referrals and authorizations to ensure claims are filed properly
  • Assisting patients and reception staff with financial and insurance questions to provide adequate customer service to mitigate future reimbursement issues. We offer a generous compensation package including competitive hourly wage, medical and dental insurance, 401K plan, 7 paid holidays, 14 days vacation/sick time/personal time, $500/year employee practice credit benefit, optional additional benefits, the ability to further your career plus more! Position Requirements :

· High school diploma or equivalent

· 2+ years experience in a similar role

In-depth knowledge of health insurance payers including commercial plans, Medicare, Medicaid, and government entities.

Skills and Abilities:

* Must be highly organized and detail oriented

Position Responsibilities:

* Provide accurate and timely patient insurance verifications

* Speak with patients via phone and in person regarding their insurance coverage and benefits

* Provide support to reception staff with regard to insurance coverage/co-pays/benefits

Physical Requirements:

· Must be able to lift and carry 20 pounds

· Primarily sedentary, but must be able to walk, stand, and bend to carry out essential job functions.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Coordinate and schedule surgeries, follow-up appointments as designated by physicians.

2. Interact with patients, physicians, and other staff both within the clinic and at outside facilities providing accurate, timely and responsive information.

3. Coordinate processes and route all paperwork as required to meet physician and facility requirements.

4. Ensure efficient telephone communication

5. Follow all written protocols and procedures of the clinic.

6. Demonstrate courtesy and helpfulness toward patients and their families.

7. Schedule mutually acceptable appointment times for patients and physicians using computerized scheduling system.

8. Work as a team member with the clinic.

9. Must be able to recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergent situations per protocols.

10 Establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, staff, and management.

11 Document work processes as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


1 year as a medical receptionist/medical assistant with a strong clinical knowledge.

1 year related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience in a clinical setting


1. Medical terminology.

2. Basic typing and keyboarding skills.

3. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

4. Experience with customer service and multi-line phones.

5. Familiarity with computers and other office equipment.

Other requirements:

Ability to prioritize responsibilities.

Ability to multi-task efficiently and effectively.

Must be able to act calmly and effectively in a busy or stressful situation.

Requires adherence to all policies and procedures, including standards for safety, attendance, punctuality, and personal appearance.    Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers and peers.
