Philip Zakko, MD
Spine Surgeon
Philip Zakko, M.D. is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic spine surgeon who specializes in the treatment of degenerative and traumatic conditions of the spine using both minimally invasive and traditional surgical techniques.
A New England native, Dr. Zakko earned his medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine before completing his orthopaedic surgery residency at Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. He then pursued advanced fellowship training in spine surgery at Corewell Health, where he focused on both operative and non-operative management of common and complex disorders of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine.
Dr. Zakko has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and surgical technique videos, and has presented his research at national and international spine society meetings. He also serves as a reviewer for multiple spine journals and is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the North American Spine Society.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Zakko is a classically trained violinist and a member of the World Doctors Orchestra, where he combines his passion for music with medicine to support charitable causes worldwide. He also enjoys playing tennis and pickleball, skiing, traveling, and spending time with family.
