We’re pleased to announce that Dr. Maximilian Meyer has been appointed Chair of Orthopedic Surgery at Portsmouth Regional Hospital, strengthening a long-standing partnership focused on delivering high-level orthopedic care to patients across the Seacoast. In addition to his new leadership role, Dr. Meyer will continue his clinical practice as a hand, wrist, and elbow surgeon with Atlantic Orthopaedics, where he cares for patients with both acute injuries and chronic upper extremity conditions.
For Dr. Meyer, this role is an honor and a natural next step after years of collaboration. Portsmouth Regional Hospital is the only certified Level II trauma center in the Seacoast region, providing a critical resource for complex inpatient and outpatient orthopedic care, including total joint replacement, spine surgery, and trauma care. Dr. Meyer has worked closely with the Emergency Department, perioperative staff, anesthesia providers, nurses, and physical therapists at PRH, describing the culture there as one of strong teamwork and commitment to excellent medical care.
As Chair, one of his key goals is to improve the patient experience and access to specialty orthopedic services, especially after Emergency Department visits. When a patient arrives with an injury that requires surgery, timely follow-up with the appropriate orthopedic specialist is essential, and Dr. Meyer aims to streamline that transition so patients can move quickly from diagnosis to definitive care. He also plans to actively seek feedback from patients, nurses, therapists, and physicians to keep refining the orthopedic service line and maintain the program’s position as the region’s leading orthopedic provider. Looking ahead, Dr. Meyer is excited to collaborate with hospital leadership to expand the hospital’s growing orthopedic subspecialties, with a particular focus on advancing spine surgery and foot and ankle surgery services.
