Arthritis

Arthritis

Thanks to age related arthritis (I’m 88), both of my shoulders needed to be replaced. It got to the point where I couldn’t reach behind me, hitch a bra or reach the top shelf in my kitchen. It was often painful and I hated being deprived of all the things I loved to do. So we did the shoulders a year apart – in the summer so that I wouldn’t miss the symphony season. (I’ve played viola with the Portland Symphony for 46 years.) It was tough not to drive for a few weeks, but otherwise my recovery went smoothly. I was back to full mobility after several months. I really liked Dr. Noerdlinger. He’s funny, frank and not too serious about old age. I trust him to be honest with me. A friend of mine went to see him and he encouraged her to wait and see…not rush into surgery. He’s not knife happy.
